The Parent’s Toolkit: The Pingpong Strategy

Communication between parents and children can often be a power and control dynamic. Parents especially get caught in this kind of situation where the child or adolescent is saying things to which any response by the parent is not effective. For example, the parent might tell the child to clean up her room and she might respond with “no, I don’t have to, you can’t make me.” Any response, even a firm threat of punishment, would only escalate the conflict; the child might respond “go ahead, I don’t care.” And even if the parent does enforce the punishment, it has been a no win situation. The room was not cleaned up, the child forced the hand of the parent into the punishment and nothing was really accomplished.

Learning Sound Parenting Skills is Essential

It can be shocking to see how irresponsible some parents can be. I have observed many irresponsible acts in public that make me think that people should undergo testing and examinations before they are allowed to have offspring. Many people are not taking advantage of basic parenting skills classes that are offered.

Many young parents have no clue whatsoever about what to do with their infant that the hospital had just turned over to them. A manual about parenting should be given to parents when they leave the hospital. Anybody can be a parent but not everyone has the parenting skills required to raise a child properly.

Parenting Skill Is Enhanced From Experience

They say that you tend to become your father or your mother the very minute you have children. How many times do we see that in the movies, especially come Oscar time? Be it drama or comedy, there is a moment wherein one character stops, reflects and blurts out, “I’m my dad” or “I’m Mom.”

Art imitates life. Naturally when we grow up, the parenting skills applied on us by our parents is what we see. Though some may not be beneficial for us, we eradicate these the very minute we have our own offspring. Simply put, you continue with the good parenting skill you learned from your folks but at the same time, you also do not do to your kids those parenting skills that you didn’t fancy receiving when you were growing up.

Financial Assistance For The Single Parent To Help Deal With Family Costs

Being a single parent family it is often found that financial assistance will be required. This is often used to cover many costs, whether it be schooling or the household upkeep or even for mortgage payments. The money that is provided will often be used as way of the supporting the child therefore all financial aid will be there to help the single parent in providing for their family.

If you are a single parent it is wise to realize that you do not always have to do it on your own. Even if you feel that you are a good parent to your child. There is no need for you to feel that you have to bare the weight of everything on your shoulders, especially financially. Just because you can show yourself to be busy on all aspects and are able to look after your family alone does not mean that you have to.
